What Builds Us
A feature documentary — in development.
The Story
What Builds Us is a documentary about Adult Fans of LEGO — builders, collectors, and sellers who turn plastic bricks into something much bigger: a way to create, to cope, and to connect. From custom builds to convention halls to online marketplaces, this film explores why grown adults still build, and what it gives them that nothing else does.
What It's About
"This is a film about creativity in adulthood, identity, and belonging — and about how something as simple as a brick can become a source of healing, purpose, and community"
Why I'm Making This
I've always found something steadying in building — a kind of quiet focus that's hard to find anywhere else.
Â
Through some difficult chapters of my own life, LEGO gave me a place to put my hands and my head when everything else felt uncertain.

That's what drew me to this film. The more I talked to other builders, the more I realized I wasn't alone in that — that for a lot of people in this community, building is doing real work: helping them process, create, and connect. What Builds Us is my attempt to heal — and to tell those stories, including a bit of my own.
